Looking to remove smooth from a wig? Sometimes synthetic wigs and toppers come with an unnatural smoothen…smoothen that looks a petty, well, too shiny and false.

(Not all wigs come up shiny–Ellen Wille hair fibers are incredibly realistic right from the start every bit are a few Raquel Welch colors I've seen.)

If your wig or topper is too shiny and you want to make a wig less shiny, then you MUST invest in dry shampoo.

But non just any dry shampoo–I've tested a few of them and I'll let you in on my "dry shampoo" secret. Not all of them are created equal!

From left to right, we have Bumble & Bumble Dry out Shampoo (which y'all've generally heard me talk almost as a scalp concealer for bald spots, Tresemme Fresh Showtime Dry out Shampoo, Pantene Pro-Five Blowout Extend Dry out Shampoo, Batiste Dry Shampoo, and Klorane Dry Shampoo (with Oat Milk).

Quite the roundup, eh?

Earlier nosotros get into the results, I wanted to check: take y'all grabbed my guide which details how to make your synthetic hair last damn almost forever? If non, make sure you get information technology!

Ok, on to the results!

How to Brand a Wig Less Shiny: Battle of the Dry Shampoos

The first one I tried to lessen the shine from my wigs and toppers was the Tresemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo.

I could immediately see how this product might help to decrease the shine in synthetic wigs and toppers…simply a quick spritz and it was dulled. Withal, the product itself is white (almost like you are spraying babe powder).

This might not be bad if I had blond hair, however, information technology looked chalky on my medium brown pieces. Even after brushing through, the colour of my hair was changed also much for my liking.

It does wash right out, nevertheless.

I will note that this product had a actually dainty olfactory property to it, though. Information technology may be overpowering to sensitive noses, merely it died down over the course of the day.

I knew I was on to something with these dry out shampoos; I just had to find the right one. And so, 1 by i I went, testing away, until I constitute two that worked for me.

First, let me bear witness you the difference between a piece that is right out of the box, versus one that has been sprayed with my dry shampoo "winner" to assistance reduce the smoothen.

Both toppers in the in a higher place picture are Milan by Noriko. Tin can you estimate which one has been treated with the dry shampoo to assistance remove the shine?

If you guessed the hair on the correct, you lot'd be correct.

Here's some other:

Make wig less shiny with this dry shampoo

Same two pieces, just a slightly dissimilar bending. Again, the topper on the right (notation: since these are upside downwardly…the i visually on the left!) has been sprayed with dry out shampoo to aid remove the polish.

This last photo is similar to the very first one I showed you lot, but again, a slightly dissimilar perspective. The piece that has had shine removed is on the bottom.

How to Make a Wig Less Shiny (or Topper!): The Winners

best-dry-shampoo

I beloved, love, love these 2 dry shampoos for removing smoothen from wigs and toppers, for ii different reasons.

Winner one for removing smooth from wigs:

The Klorane Dry Shampoo is a flake on the pricey side, merely I consider this to be the Cadillac of dry shampoos.

Its spritz is And then fine that it doesn't leave a white, powdery residue like some of the other, less expensive brands do. It sprays nice and evenly and doesn't leave my hair with a "coated" feeling.

It also smells Then good.

I'thou non sure if it's the oat milk in it, or what, but it just smells…normal.

Less artificial.

I can't quite put my finger on it, but some of the other options I tried smelled very perfume-y. I just desire my hair to scent like hair, and not similar I dipped my caput in a dang field full of sunflowers.

Winner 2 for removing shine from wigs:

The other option I similar is Batiste Dry out Shampoo. The pricing of this is at drugstore levels, which is nice, and the smell isn't also overpowering (only it'southward definitely there).

This is a tinted dry shampoo – it'due south similar to my Bumble & Bumble (which is what I used to use to encompass my bald spots prior to wearing imitation hair) in that it sprays out with a colour. In my example, information technology's a brown color, nevertheless it does come in blond and peradventure fifty-fifty black.

My "trouble" with this is that Different using it to cover bald spots and thinning hair (which you CAN do), yous want to spray this much more diffusely throughout your constructed pilus.

Significant, when yous are focusing on roofing, y'all are looking to spray a specific area.

If you are looking to remove smooth from a wig or topper, you want to kind of spray it all over. This makes this production a wee bit messy.

As in, my counters were covered in a fine, brownish film (and I should've taken a photo!).

Much like annihilation in life, null is 100% perfect, and both of these dry out shampoos are good…they just take trade-offs.

TL;DR?:

If you want something that is very fine, smells nice and Not perfume-y, doesn't get out a mess, merely is a bit pricier? Go with the Klorane Dry out Shampoo.

If you want something that is very budget-friendly but you can live with constant clean up? Consider Batiste Dry out Shampoo.

Note: I did not experience any colour run-off onto my apparel with this, even though information technology was messy in my bathroom!

In all of my photos above, I've actually used BOTH of these products. I like using the Batiste offset every bit a light base glaze. Then the Klorane on top of information technology to finish the job – the more than-natural smell of the Klorane stands out then (the olfactory property of the Batiste isn't bad, I only much adopt the Klorane), and I apply less of the more-expensive Klorane that way.

What do yous use to aid remove annoying shine from your wigs and toppers?

UPDATE: I recently constitute what I now consider to exist the best dry pilus shampoo (it's super-cheap and information technology smells like heaven…if yous're ok with your hair smelling like something! Some don't similar Whatsoever scent, and that'south exactly who the Klorane option to a higher place is best for!).

Check it out!
